Formative Discipline and Restorative Practices in School Life
By Ezequiel Varas, Dean of Students
At Highlands, we use formative discipline as an educational intervention method that promotes self-regulation of behavior in response to the responsible exercise of freedom and maturation in love. This approach fosters an environment of respect and responsibility, promoting positive learning.
It focuses on teaching students self-control, empathy, and conflict resolution skills, helping them understand the consequences of their actions and make responsible decisions through questions and options.
Restorative practices aim to resolve conflicts, repair situations, and restore relationships through dialogue and mediation.
These methodologies help create an inclusive and harmonious environment, supporting the holistic development of students.
Examples we frequently use include dialogue and restorative circles, peer mediation, and constant support.
